WELCOME BACK!!!
‚ÄčIt's hard to believe that summer has gone and it's back to school!  I hope everyone had a restful and amazing summer!!!!  I saw quite a few of you at the Sag Harbor Community Band concerts this summer!  Thank you for stopping by!
All programs are up and running!  Fourth and Fifth grade band students have been given their first calendars of lessons and have received their instruments.  Performing Arts Classes have been introduced to their programs for this semester and Kindergarten Violin has been working very hard with their practice violins.  Please click on the MY HOME PAGE and MY RESOURCES tab to find out more about these programs!

SPRING CONCERT  MAY 24th!
The Annual Spring Concert will be held in the Elementary Gym on WEDNESDAY, MAY 24th at 7pm.  All students should arrive by 6:30pm.  DRESS CODE:  Black pants or skirts, black shoes, color t-shirt.  NO JEANS or SNEAKERS!  

In preparation for our Spring Concert, all the performing groups will perform at Morning Program during the week leading up to the Concert:
ORCHESTRA:  May 18;   SMALL CHORUS:   May 19;    GUITAR:   May 22;   LARGE CHORUS:  May 23 and BAND:  May 24.   Please arrive at the school by 8:30am to help set up and warm up.  Bus students will be permitted to get off the bus as soon as the bus arrives.  

THE LAST DAY OF AFTER SCHOOL BAND WILL BE MAY 31st.  We will end our year with the annual KICKBALL/PIZZA EXTRAVAGANZA!!!  No instruments are needed.  Please wear sneakers.  If you do not like pizza or can not eat pizza, please bring an alternative snack.  

INSTRUMENT REGISTRATION FORMS for next year went out to the classrooms .  ALL students must return this form.  Please see directions on letter.   Please return forms by JUNE 9th.

All instruments and lesson books (including drum sticks and drum pads) must be returned to the Band Room by JUNE 9th.   








FRIDAY, MARCH 10

SCMEA REHEARSALS FOR TODAY - FRIDAY, MARCH 10 -  ARE CANCELLED.

Please check the SCMEA website (www.scmea.org) as well as the school website regarding rehearsal tomorrow.  As of right now, all rehearsals for SATURDAY and the concerts for Saturday and Sunday are ON as scheduled.  This may change due to weather.  Please monitor both websites closely.



IMPORTANT SCMEA INFORMATION:

SCMEA REHEARSALS Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11

SCMEA plans on holding all rehearsals as planned this weekend.   Here is the plan for our students in the event of inclement weather:

IF SCHOOL IS CANCELLED ON FRIDAY:
NO SCMEA rehearsals on Friday.  Saturday rehearsals as planned. 

IF THERE IS A TWO HOUR DELAY:
Rehearsals for Friday and Saturday as planned.  

PLEASE NOTE:  If our school is closed, we will NOT go to SCMEA even if SCMEA is holding rehearsal.  You will still be able to attend rehearsals on Saturday and the concerts.


PLEASE NOTE:    AFTER SCHOOL BAND WILL BE  CANCELLED ON MARCH 1st due to the RESCHEDULING OF THE SCIENCE FAIR!!!!

NYSSMA FORMS ARE DUE MARCH 3rd!  If your child is interested in participating in NYSSMA this year, please return the form with payment by March 3rd. 



JANUARY 2017

Happy New Year!

Congratulations to the following students who are representing Sag Harbor Elementary in the Suffolk County Music Festival in March:     BAND:  Justin Gardiner, Tenor Saxophone and Sophia Villeneuve, Clarinet;  CHORUS:  Ravenel Ellis, Stefanie Gordillo, Gabby Adlah and Zinzi Arnold.  We know you will make SHES proud!!  Good Luck!!!

NYSSMA:   Students who are interested in participating in NYSSMA should pick up a registration form (or see the NYSSMA tab under MY HOME PAGE) as soon as possible.  All band, orchestra and chorus students in grades 4 and 5 are encouraged to participate.   PRIVATE and PIANO STUDENTS:  Please make sure you are aware of all the requirements for NYSSMA (scales, solo, sightreading).  If you are not sure, please see me.  Registration due date is MARCH 3rd.

Although Mother Nature has provided us with some extraordinarily warm weather, it is indeed the end of November and that can only mean one thing:  CONCERT SEASON!!!!   Winter Concert, Sneak Peeks, Performing Arts.... we have it all right here at SHES!!!!  There is a lot going on in the next few weeks.... please check your child's backpacks for extra notices regarding rehearsals and performances.   Here is just a sketch of what is going on this month.  Please check theMY HOME PAGE tab to the left for more information.

OCTOBER 2016

It's hard to believe it is the end of October already!!!  All programs have been running smoothly and I'm thrilled about the excitement that has been shown so far this year!!!

UPCOMING EVENTS:
Week of October 31:   November Band calendars distributed.  Remember... you can find your child's weekly lesson online under   MY HOME PAGE then BAND LESSONS.
November 11th:   NO SCHOOL
November 21 and 22:  Parent Teacher Conferences:   I send out 20-25 letters to parents that I would like to see to discuss progress in the various programs.   If you did not receive a letter and would like to talk about your child's progress, please email me with a time that is convenient for you.   (As I've told the students:   "If you get a conference letter from me, it does not mean you are in trouble.  If there was any problems, your parents would have been informed WAY BEFORE NOW!")  
November 23-25:  NO SCHOOL - THANKSGIVING RECESS

I hope you all had a wonderful and musical summer!!!!  

All programs are up and running.  Band Lessons for 5th grade students staying on the same instrument will begin the week of September 12th.   Students should watch their class mailboxes for important schedules.   Band Lessons for beginners will (hopefully) start the week of September 19th.  MANY students have yet to return their registration forms.... the faster the forms come in, the sooner we can start.

A few reminders:
* If you haven't already done so, please return your Instrument Registration Form ASAP.
Reminder notices will be going out this week.  These forms must be returned EVEN IF YOU
DO NOT WISH TO PLAY AN INSTRUMENT!!!!!!

* Students new to the district received a new registration packet.  Please return as soon
as possible.  Please call or email with any questions.
 
*  If you borrowed an instrument for the summer, please hold on to it until your first 
lesson. 

After school band will not start until October.  All students who are registered in the Band Program are involved in After School Band.
